How Human Resources Can Drive Your Business Goals The role of the Human Resource (HR) professional is shifting from the days filled with administrative and tactical tasks to those focused on strategies that will impact business results. Through sourcing, recruiting, and developing talent, as well as aligning and evaluating performance, HR professionals now spend their time driving business results which serves to control and reduce people costs. It is understandable why HR specialist get busy with the administrative processes of the day to day work, however, it is vital that HR professionals develop a strategic approach so they can ultimately help one’s organization gain a competitive edge. The most effective HR strategies include an in-depth knowledge of the organization’s business and where it wants to be. To maintain a competitive advantage and to develop a culture of high performance, the HR Department must align HR, Training and Organization Development activities with the Mission and business goal’s of the organization. This approach will not only set the organization apart from others, but it will allow for focus and attention to critical priorities that ultimately drive success within the organization. Many organizations depend on customer loyalty to be successful. In order to achieve great customer loyalty, the employees within the organization must be actively engaged. A strategic and effective HR professional makes sure they are aligned with their business and surveys their employees twice a year with drivers within the survey that shows engagement. HR helps identify any gaps and implements solutions or confirms continued engagement all so that the customer loyalty never drops and affects the bottom line. There is much reasoning behind why outsourcing HR and having consultants drive or handle the HR agenda. HR consultants work to not only meet but exceed their clients’ expectations which includes strategizing, learning, and looking at trends and future possibilities. These are key leadership skill sets that you want within your organization to make sure you gain the competitive advantage. Often times, small to midsize companies chose to have someone handle HR while overseeing other functions within the company. These individuals are committed and willing but often do not have an HR background. Companies that outsource their HR to consultants save money but most importantly gain knowledgeable, trusted leaders who not only can assist them with the administrative functions but provide them with a strategy that aligns their people and business. HR outsourcing allows companies to be relieved of their HR responsibilities and focus on what they do best. It is imperative that HR professionals leave behind the legacy of being transactional. Opportunities to add value to their organization by becoming more strategic is imperative. There is so much worth to be added to an organization when leadership sees the big picture and strategically takes care of the very costly items within an organization which include staffing, performance and benefits/payroll. When this happens, it is inevitable that the day will come that the leadership team cannot imagine running their business without the strategic HR focus. However, there is empirical evidence detailing the impact of professional coaching on improved employee performance, productivity, work quality and employee retention within an organization. Some recent surveys support the importance of coaching:
